Harvesting the New American Dream: Celebrating Six Years of AnewAmerica’s Dedication to Entrepreneurs in the Bay Area

“Entrepreneur of the Year” Contest winner announced

The 6th annual Gala, Harvesting the New American Dream, will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2005, at 6 p.m. at the Holy Redeemer Conference Center, located at 8945 Golf Links Road in Oakland. “This event salutes the positive contributions that AnewAmerica clientele have produced through micro/entrepreneurship in the Bay Area. AnewAmerica has given hundreds of families a new paradigm on opportunity and access to resources in this country thanks to the joint investment in social and economic opportunities by local corporations, government and philanthropic organizations and individual leaders from our communities.” said Sylvia Rosales-Fike Founder, President and CEO of AnewAmerica.

AnewAmerica will announce the winners of its first Entrepreneur of the Year award at the gala for two entrepreneurs whose social responsibility, creativity, drive, vision and talents best exemplify AnewAmerica’s goals. The first prize is $700 and second prize $300. “We are looking forward to selecting the first Entrepreneur of the Year award, as a way to help our participants promote their businesses. The winners not only receive a monetary value but also peer recognition.“ says Edwin Rodriguez, Program Manager of AnewAmerica. Clients will also be profiled in AnewAmerica’s publications and website.

The Gala also features the Community Angel Awards which are presented to three outstanding leaders from local government and the business community who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and vision in the areas of Community, Philanthropy, and Volunteerism. This year Ignacio De La Fuente President, Oakland City Council, Darlene L. McKinnon Deputy District Director, U.S., Small Business Administration and Trung Nguyen President, Vietnamese Community Development will be honored.

AnewAmerica’s Microbusiness Exposition provides a venue for entrepreneurs in the program to showcase their new or expanding businesses strengthened by AnewAmerica’s services. They will also be providing ethnic food and will display and promote their products and/or services.

AnewAmerica’s Assets for New Americans serves as a model as the only program in the nation that provides up to three years of support in business planning and training, university credentials, technology literacy, financial management, savings incentives (including a 2:1 match on deposits) and access to markets and capital. Business Incubation is linked with Asset Building and Social Responsibility as an effective anti-poverty strategy so that clients attain a higher living wage and quality of life.

In 1999, AnewAmerica Community Corporation was founded by a group of community leaders representing immigrants and community development advocates who saw a continuing lack of integrated job creation, asset development, and community empowerment strategies for low-income new Americans living in the S.F. Bay Area. AnewAmerica has served over 1,300 individuals and has helped clients successfully launch 24 new microbusinesses, enabled 30 business expansions, and created new jobs for 65 new Americans.

Tickets for AnewAmerica’s Gala are $75.00.  Program ads and sponsorships are also available.  For more information, please call 510-540-7785 x314 or email ccarr@anewamerica.org.  For immediate information, please visit our website: www.anewamerica.org.
