Weaving Our Common Threads:
AnewAmerica’s annual Gala & Microbusiness Expo

The 7th annual Gala, Weaving Our Common Threads, will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2006, at 6 p.m. at the Holy Redeemer Conference Center, located at 8945 Golf Links Road in Oakland. “This event is a celebration of the extraordinary value new Americans bring to this country and is also an opportunity to support innovative efforts in economic development of low income people.” said Sylvia Rosales-Fike Founder, President & CEO of AnewAmerica.

The Gala will feature the Community Angel Awards which are presented to three outstanding leaders from local government and the business community. Awardees this year include Amanda Feinstein Program Officer for Haas Fund, Ginny Yamate, Manager of Diversity Outreach & Contributions, California State Automobile Association and Maria Gallo, Vice President for Diverse Markets for Union Bank. These three women will be recognized for their outstanding leadership in community development, economic justice and responsible philanthropy in the Bay Area.

AnewAmerica’s Microbusiness Exposition provides a venue for entrepreneurs in the program to showcase their new or expanding businesses strengthened by AnewAmerica’s services. They will also be providing ethnic food and will display and promote their products and/or services.

AnewAmerica’s Assets for New Americans serves as a model as the only program in the nation that provides up to three years of support in business planning and training, university credentials, technology literacy, financial management, savings incentives (including a 2:1 match on deposits) and access to markets and capital. Business Incubation is linked with Asset Building and Social Responsibility as an effective anti-poverty strategy so that clients attain a higher living wage and quality of life. In 2005, families in AnewAmerica’s programs had an amazing business growth of 22% after 3 years in our program.

AnewAmerica is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and Community Development Entity (CDE) that promotes the economic empowerment of new Americans. AnewAmerica assists low-income new Americans to establish microbusinesses, build personal assets, and create community assets supporting long-term political, social, and cultural empowerment.  In 1999, AnewAmerica Community Corporation was founded by a group of community leaders representing immigrants and community development advocates who saw a continuing lack of integrated job creation, asset development, and community empowerment strategies for low-income new Americans living in the S.F. Bay Area. With a total revenue of $1,166,715 for the year 2005, AnewAmerica has served clients from over 40 countries. Their cumulative accomplishments also include the fact that 92 families have saved a total of $285,191 through the Savings Clubs-Individual Development Accounts and 19 families have purchased their first homes.

Tickets for AnewAmerica’s Gala are $75.00.  Program ads and sponsorships are also available.  For more information, please call 510-540-7785 x314 or email ccarr@anewamerica.org.  For immediate information, please visit our website: www.anewamerica.org.
